Office nostalgia

I'm almost out of envelopes.
I think it may be the box of envelopes my parents sent me off to college with, almost 20 years ago.
It had 100 envelopes. Is that possible? Given a lot of electronic payments, or landlords who lived literally next door, or a roommate who paid the rent, I think it is. Most envelopes have gone to rent or bill payments, and not all that many to friends -- a few summers, and S's trip in South America. No huge number. On the rare occasions I wrote my parents, they'd provided self-addressed envelopes to use (no doubt to encourage me.)

Odd way of remembering my mother's birthday, but hey.

I've got a few bunches of envelopes that go back to my college days or to my time in comics afterwards - so yes, the nineties or so. Once they were more useful. I remember that back in '93 or '94, something like that, during a debate in comics fandom, I sent copies of the same letter to about eighty people. Today, of course, I'd use e-mail, but then I used eighty sheets of paper, eighty envelopes, and eighty postage stamps. Let me tell you, by the time I'd licked that final eightieth stamp, I had a stomach-ache from all the glue!

I hate the taste of glue. I always try not to swallow, and wash it out instead. Possibly neurotic of me, but eh. And yay for self-adhesive stamps these days!

I love the taste of envelope glue.

That explains a lot, doesn't it.
