Cheap hydration tech

1) A bit of lemon juice in a bunch of water.  Not working as well as in past sicknesses; I seem to want more sugar.

2) Maple syrup (in lieu of the canonical honey, which I don't have) and a bit of lemon juice in a bunch of water.

3) Orange juice diluted in a bunch of water.

Ginger Ale has always done wonders for my tummy, when I'm ill.

Yeah, that or lemon-lime drinks like Sprite or 7-Up have helped in the past. Don't have any on hand, though.

Freshman year in high school, I was sick but going to class anyway. I got some Sprite or 7-Up from the vending machines to sip through class, and was surprised at how nice it was. Hydration, but maybe also the carbonation breaking up gunk. Over the next few days I kept doing this, and as I got better the drink got less and less attractive; when I was healthy again I didn't want it at all.

No, I don't usually drink soft drinks. :)

Fun fact: I actually can't drink ginger ale because I only ever got it as a kid when I was puking my guts out. My brain apparently associates it with being sick, so I get nauseous if I drink it while I'm not.

Just for comparison, here is the recipe for Oral Rehydration Therapy, the stuff they give people who have cholera and desperately need rehydration.

Taken from Wikipedia: "There are several commercially available products but an inexpensive home-made solution consists of 8 level teaspoons of sugar and 1 level teaspoon of table salt mixed in 1 liter of water (Rehydration Project: Home made recipe). ... A half cup of orange juice or half of a mashed banana can be added to each liter both to add potassium and to improve taste."

Thanks.
I'd been thinking mostly about getting lots of water in, and some sugars, but I suppose I should think about salt a bit too.
