* French and Dutch health care Not very deep analysis, mind you.
* Medicare's legacy

Krugman
* Stimulus. It's too early to see a big difference even on the original projections.
* On Medicare costs, and and more. Heritage claims the low costs are an illusion, but by comparison with Medicare Advantage (private, same pool) and foreign Medicares (public, pool not restricted to the elderly) we see that Heritage is full of shit.
* Al Franken, policy wonk. I like the bumper sticker for Rush Holt: "my congressman IS a rocket scientist".
* Paradox of thrift, basic Keynesian concept. Though I find the data graph confusing.
* Rundown of the health reform bill and why insuring everyone is affordable. Mandate, subsidy,regualted pricing, public option. Many of the uninsured are young, so not needing too much, and those who do often do get some (expensive) care via emergency rooms. Universal insurance would remove the stress and variability, ensuring everyone can count on care, without needing big-company jobs.

Honduras. Democrats in charge, not a coup; they're looking to their

* More "independence" in North Korea. But my first reaction to the photo was that it looked surprisingly normal; most previous accounts I've seen of NK make it seem like a depopulated wasteland with the occasional soldier or starving peasant.

Gloomy SF links
Regarding Charles Stross and the gloominess of his sf - I didn't need to read any of his books to get that vibe. That long essay he wrote a while back, which to my eyes effectively boiled down to "space colonization is a stupid idea because it is prohibitively expensive now, therefore it will be prohibitively expensive forever" pretty much cemented that for me.

That gloominess _does_ fit with the whole vibe of the world, though, so I can't fault him for that.
